You've happened upon the official San Diego Zoo Global Tumblr blog. San Diego Zoo Global is a not-for-profit organization that operates the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research. With over 140 projects in over 80 countries, we're dedicated to saving endangered species worldwide and leading the fight against extinction.

On the morning of January 30, 2018, the day of a rare lunar eclipse, something happened that hadn’t occurred at the Zoo in 10 years. BB, a first-time mother, had given birth to the first Schmidt’s red-tailed monkey born at the Zoo since 2006! The baby was named Kupatwa, which means “eclipse” in Swahili.
